Workshop "Hour of Coding"

The Center for Social and Gender Studies is organizing a workshop titled "Hour of Coding" for female students of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University as part of the Science Decade.

Today, coding is becoming an increasingly important skill in the modern world. The ability to understand the basics of programming and possess basic skills in this area opens up new opportunities for students in their future careers, regardless of their professional interests. Understanding computer technology and coding can be very useful, even if students do not plan to work in the field of information technology.

Historically, the field of IT and programming has been predominantly male-dominated, and holding events such as the Hour of Coding for female students contributes to increasing women's participation in this field. This is not only fair in terms of equality but also promotes diversity and innovation in the technology sector. Global experience shows that conducting the Hour of Coding has a positive effect on students' motivation to study exact sciences. This can be an important incentive for female students to engage in scientific and technological fields and even choose them as future professions.

The Center for Social and Gender Studies hopes that students will share our vision and support the initiative to conduct the Hour of Coding as part of the Science Decade. We are confident that this will be a useful and inspiring event for all participants.

The "Hour of Coding" workshop will introduce participants to the basics of programming and computer science. During this workshop, students can learn:

      • Basics of programming. Participants can learn fundamental programming concepts such as variables, conditional statements, loops, and functions.
      • Website development. The workshop may offer participants the experience of creating simple web pages using HTML and CSS.
      • Game development: Participants can learn how to create simple computer games and animations using popular game development tools and platforms.

Workshop participants will acquire basic programming and computer science skills that can serve as a foundation for further study and development in the field of information technology. The workshop will be conducted by a specialist in IT technology with 10 years of experience, Aselkhan Akhmetova, as part of the university project WikiGap-2024 QyzPU, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of our University.

We kindly ask participants to bring their laptops or alternative devices for coding.
