      ALMATY. May 18. PRESS-CENTER - Today, May 18, International Museum Day is celebrated. Open Day was held in the museum «Aqtumar» Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University.

      Since 1978 museum workers around the world celebrate their professional holiday - the International Museum Day on May 18. During the Soviet period, the holiday was officially adopted in 1977 at the XI General Conference of the International Council of Museums in Moscow.

      German museums opened their doors to visitors at night for the first time in 1997. In 2005, the French proposed an annual museum event called «Museums at Night». This year the Council of Europe approved this proposal. In 2006 more than 2000 museums from 38 countries took part in the «Museums at Night» project. This year Kazakhstan joined the international action «Museums at Night». Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan was one of the first who organized «Museums at Night» in Kazakhstan.

      The Historical and Ethnographic Museum «Aqtumar» of the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University also organized the open day, dedicated to the event. About 60 students from №15 gymnasiums came with their supervisors to see exhibits and rare photos from the time of the university's opening, which is stored in the museum. In particular, they received complete information about the formation and development of the Women's University, the activities of state and public figures, rectors, and graduates of the university.

      History and Ethnography Museum «Aqtumar» was founded in November 2002. So far, foreign guests who came to the university, and famous people from our country visited the museum and left their autographs.
