      ALMATY. August 15. PRESS CENTER - the Research Institute for Social and Gender Studies heldoffline training at the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University onthe topic "Gender Economics: Basic Concepts of the Theory of Gender Relations".

      The project "Raising awareness of gender issues in the media for the general public" is being implemented by the MediaNet International Centre for Journalism with the support of the Finnish Embassy in Kazakhstan. Speaker – Aizhan Salimzhanova, director of the Gender Research Institute, Elsevier trainer in Kazakhstan. The event was attended by students of Women’s Teacher Training University, representatives of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, journalists from Factcheck and Abai.kz website, MediaNet, and others.

      During the training issues such like employment discrimination, occupational segregation (discrimination in access to certain professions or positions), wage discrimination, gender statistics, and gender identity were discussed. Participants asked questions and discussed topics such as the gender division of labor, what is the situation with gender occupational segregation in Kazakhstan, “why women are paid less than men?”, and “what measures can be used to prevent the gender pay gap?”.

      We plan to conduct another training on gender issues at Women’s Teacher Training University, with the support of the MediaNet International Centre for Journalism and the Finnish Embassy in Kazakhstan. Please check the announcements.
